Description
The project involves the expansion of École primaire Villa-de-la-Jeunesse in the village of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton to include a gymnasium and various related services, including locker rooms and multi-purpose rooms for the daycare service. A glass walkway links the existing building with the new construction on both levels. The project also includes the redevelopment of administrative spaces and a classroom in the existing building. A warm, rural architectural style was chosen to blend in with the village environment of Saint-Élie and the existing school's built environment. The 813 m2 extension, which is eagerly awaited in the region, was built entirely of wood and benefited from a budgetary bonus from the Ministry of Education (MEQ) for integrating sustainable development measures and promoting academic success. A high-performance aerothermal system and fresh-air preheating technology were selected.
The construction of this new, interesting and stimulating living environment for students will also be available to the Saint-Élie community, which will be able to engage in physical activity indoors in a well-equipped and adapted space. Thanks to the partnership between the municipality and the school board, the new gymnasium will also be able to serve as a multi-purpose hall and performance venue.
