Description
The building at 1141–1145 Route de l’Église was built in 1969–70 according to plans by architect Paul-Émile Samson to house the Sainte-Foy post office branch and offices for federal public servants. It quickly became a shining example of Quebec architecture for that period. SQI has owned the building since 2014 and it has continued to be used as a government office building since its construction. The building holds significant heritage interest for being one of the first to go up in this area of Sainte-Foy, for the authenticity of its architecture, which has been preserved since its construction, and for its visibility in the urban landscape on the corner of Route de l’Église and Boulevard Hochelaga.
The upgrade project consists of fully replacing the exterior envelope of the 12-storey tower and podium, including the prefabricated concrete cladding, insulation, and fenestration to solve water infiltration problems caused by deficient waterproofing between the concrete panels and facade windows.
