Cap-Rouge Pedestrian Bridge

A pedestrian bridge connecting the banks of the Cap-Rouge River near the church had been in the works for a number of years. Because of the site’s uneven terrain and the desire for a simple, streamlined design, an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge was selected over other types of bridges. 

The bridge’s structure was carefully designed to optimize the efficiency of each part and each cable. With its slender components, the bridge blends perfectly into its surroundings. The pylons installed on both sides of the river emerge from the dense foliage of the surrounding forest. The deck structure was painted black so that its silhouette would merge with the natural shadows of the landscape. The suspension components (pylons, anchorages, cables, and tubes under the deck) were painted pale grey to accentuate this effect. The railing’s natural galvanized finish was deliberately left untouched.
