Description

In 2015, ABCP architecture was commissioned by VINCI Immobilier to draw up a master plan as part of a call for proposals from the Val d'Isère municipality to redevelop the center of the resort. The proposed architectural and urban project develops into a hamlet around a discovery trail, inspired by the morphology and atmosphere of traditional villages.

This hamlet, modern and open to its surrounding context, becomes a new gateway to the city and is fully designed for use in summer and winter. Its layout is designed to facilitate the control of traffic flow on the site and creates, in the center of Val-d'Isère, a true multimodal heart.

Viewed as an opportunity rather than a constraint, the elevation of the site, more than 12 meters, serves as a base point to provide visitors with a unique experience through pleasant, accessible and inviting courses. This topography, which suggests a creative use of the levels, gave rise to the idea of a gateway linked to a tunnel as a solution to access the ski lifts. The proposed footbridge, a new architectural signage element at the scale of the city of Val d'Isère, frees the layout of the public square and places the skier passing between the station and the ski lifts at the center of a unique spatial experience . The hamlet's aerial tour piques curiosity, contributes to the vitality of public spaces and magnifies certain points of view on the surrounding landscape and built environments
