Description

ABCP, as a member of the team directed by SNC-Lavalin, was responsible for the pavilion’s architectural design. SNC-Lavalin held the contract for designing, building, operating, and dismantling the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The team was selected in an international call for tenders and worked closely with Cirque du Soleil, which was in charge of developing the pavilion’s overall concept. A vibrant and symbolic building, the pavilion was set like a precious jewel on the edge of the Plaza of the Americas. The shape of the building evoked a wooden prism with a green, reflective interior that called to mind certain poetic images of Canada. One of the project’s main challenges consisted of creating an effective architectural rendering of the lavish and magical concept developed by Cirque du Soleil, while ensuring tight security for visitors.
