Description

Plans to expand Université Laval’s physical education and sports complex (PEPS) involved the construction and expansion of three sports facilities, including the addition of a 3,500 seat stadium, an Olympic-size pool with bleachers for ±1,000 spectators, a recreational pool for children, new fitness rooms, and support and service areas. These additional facilities also required that circulation within the complex be completely redesigned. Together with the existing PEPS, this new facility is now the main gateway to the north side of the university campus via an internal walkway, which is an extension of the university’s main pedestrian axis. The covered walkway, dotted with public areas and brought to life by the judicious use of wood, masonry, and natural light, serves as the building’s backbone. The PEPS expansion project reinforces Université Laval’s central role in community and elite level sports.
